Choosing The Right Threads!




A Complete embroidered piece is work of art with of much skill and art infused in them. But without the right threads your design would justice the art in them.

We have made a list points to look out for when choosing a thread if you want help designing your embroidery.

 

Pick Your Thread Weight!

 

You might be confused when you heard higher thread weight means finer and thinner thread.

Well, it is true! Higher thread weight has finer and thinner quality, whereas low weight has thicker and heavier thread quality.

 

Modern digital machine Embroidery uses 40 weight thread, whereas a manual sewing machine uses 50weight thread. For Heirloom Embroidery Project, heavier threads are typically used of weight 80-100.


 


Choose Your Thread Material !

 

Now that you know the basic of what thread weights to prefer for what project, let us dive into types of thread material. Below are several thread types you can choose from distinguishing them by touch and feel.

 

Good Old Cotton

To begin our list, lets start with the age old and trustworthy thread that is the Cotton thread.

Not only a natural thread, the world famous Egyptian Cotton is Super Strong and Completely lint free.

Different than other threads, cotton offers a mean matte finish which works great with machine embroidery it gives a hand embroidery look and feel which you can use for quilting or cross stitching designs

 

Strong Polyester

Moving on to the strong contender of this list, is the mighty Polyester!

Its strong, its shiny, and its easy to use! What else we need. Not only this, Polyester threads are Bleach resistant and doesn't fade as well. So if you’re embroidering on suppose your kids sweaters or towels, kitchen covers which would be regular washed. Using polyester thread is your best bet there!

You could even use Trilobal Polyester which even better than standard polyester much stronger and shiny than standard Polyester or rayon.





Rayon

Among this list, this One is of the easily available and pocket friendly machine thread you can find in the market plus is available in multiple colors to choose from!

Rayon is made from organic cellulose has incredible shine and are soft to the touch, overtime they do fade so you in long run you would have restitch them.

 

Smooth Silk

Other than the cotton, this is the another natural fabric.

But What separates this from cotton is glows so beautifully consider as pure luxury cloth to have!

Well not just the shine, but silk comes with the strength of polyester,solidity of cotton. For ages all category tailors have preferred silk for both hand and machine embroidery.
